With so much going on in the world, the NHL has put itself into the awkward position of having to decide which of the myriad competing products is the best.
The league is in the process of reviewing its own equipment, with a report due next week.
While the league has put its own product on its website, it is a step in the right direction, as is putting the league’s own products on its own website.
A report by the league says it is looking at various options to put its equipment on the NHL’s own website, but it says the NHL is considering making the entire process free to all fans, and to make sure that its equipment is accessible.
There is a lot of pressure on the league to meet demand.
The league has been in a free-agent crunch, and the NHLPA wants the NHL to meet that demand, said NHLPA spokesman John MacIsaac.
“We are very, very hopeful that the NHL will be able to come up with the best solution that’s in the best interests of our members,” MacIsaic said.
With the NHL looking at options to sell its equipment, the league said it was looking at the following: A single uniform or jersey set, similar to the NHL players jersey set.
Two or more pairs of gloves, similar the NHL Players gloves.
One or two sets of goggles, similar for the NHL IceHogs.
Three sets of gloves and goggles.
Each pair of gloves could cost as much as $20,000.
But even if the NHL could find a way to sell individual items, the union wants to see uniform sets and gloves.
It wants to ensure that players get the equipment that is necessary to play in the NHL.
We have been working very hard with the players’ union to get the NHL equipment to their members, said league spokesman Jamie Matthews.
What’s next?
The league will hold a press conference next week to address the union’s concerns.
